our journey in the Himalayas takes our footsteps on the exact path taken by all expeditions aiming to climb Mt.Everest from the south. and all these expeditions start with a 140km long breathtaking flight along the Himalayan range, from Kathmandu to a short mountain airstrip in Lukla. a small 18-passenger aircraft flies at low altitude (roughly 3000m), side-by-side with the immense mountain range, which at this point is about 150km wide. outside the cabin windows you’ll see a spectacular sight: an endless sea of shimmering mountains piercing the sky with their countless snow-capped peaks…these are the mighty Himalayas, “the land of snow”…
as the aircraft takes a turn closing in on Lukla airstrip, if you know just where to look, for a brief moment you can catch a glimpse of Everest with its iconic trailing snow-plume. far away in the distance, roughly 50km in a straight line, Everest seems tiny and lost among a sea of peaks, closer peaks though smaller looking more imposing.
enjoy these amazing views, make sure to catch the seats on the left side of the aircraft 😉
